Customs exceeds Sept. collection by P739M

MANILA, Oct. 6 (PNA) - The Bureau of Customs (BoC) has recorded a surplus of P739 million after collecting P23.996 billion for the month of September.

Bureau records showed that last month’s collection exceeded its target revenue by P23.257 billion or 3.2 percent.

From the period of September 1-30, 2008, eight out of the bureau’s eighteen collection districts were able to meet their respective targets.

These are the ports of Manila with P4.035 billion, Manila International Container Port, P6.006 billion, San Fernando, up by P73 million from its P101.5 million target; Legaspi, P2.2 million more than its P3.3 million goal: Cebu, which posted a modest surplus of P7 million opposed to its P440 million target; Cagayan de Oro, with a P111 million excess from its P265 million goal; Davao (P209 million) and Clark (P84 million).

Two major ports namely: Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the Port of Batangas missed their targets by P272 million and P908 million, respectively.

The Port of Limay recorded the biggest deficit after collecting only 48 percent of its P3.670 billion target, missed by P1.998 billion.

The Office of the Commissioner was also not able to meet its goal of P702 million for the month, and posted no collection for September.

Tax Expenditure Funds (TEFs) or non cash payments for government importations, on the other hand, exceeded its program by P4.196 billion, as it raked in P5.023 billion for the period.

Other ports that missed their goals were Iloilo (-P8 million), Tacloban (-P18 million), Surigao (-P2.6 million), Zamboanga (-P4.6million), and Subic (-P8 million). The Port of Aparri has no assigned target as of yet.

The bureau’s collection for the month brings the total collection for the year at P195.663 billion, P9.737 billion or 5.2 percent over its target of P185.926 billion. (PNA)
