Puerto Princesa to implement P270-M Malampaya-funded infra projects

PUERTO
PRINCESA CITY, July 5 (PNA) - The city government here will build
various infrastructures out of the city's P270 million revenue share
from the Malampaya Natural Gas Project.
Mayor Edward Hagedorn said tourism spots in the city will get a big chunk of the revenues.
With improved facilities, tourists will be encouraged to stay in the city before going to other destinations, he said.
Out
of the P270 million, P120 million is allocated to the concreting of the
130-kilometer road leading to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River
National Park, where the famous 8.2-kilometer underground river is
located.
The
“Underground River” is the leading tourism attraction of the city and
one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Twenty
million pesos will be for the repair and improvement of the pier of
Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan; coastal development and reclamation
of Barangay Mandaragat, P40 million; barangay electrification projects,
P20 million; completion and installation of air conditioned system at
the city coliseum, P20 million; development of relocation sites, P15
million;
Concreting
of road in Barangay San Jose near the new public market - P9.8 million;
completion of the construction of old public market building - P6.2
million; waste water recycling and treatment facility at the baywalk
area - P5.5 million; repair, improvement and completion of school
building in the barangays - P6.5 million; part concreting of the
Valencia and H. Mendoza streets - P3 million and San Juan road in
Barangay San Miguel - P4 million. (PNA)
