The festival is in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Russia and the Philippines.

Acclaimed films from the prestigious Mosfilm Studios comprise the showcase as top-billed by a classic from cinematic giant Andrei Tarkovsky and a modern-day adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s fiction.

This year’s much awaited Cinemalaya Film Festival runs on weekdays beginning July 20 Tuesday until July 30 Friday, boasting 14 new features and 10 shorts competing in three different sections.

On show at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery from July 23 -August 20 are new works by UPFI students and recent graduates in the exhibition Paper Cut, as well as conceptual artist Ringo Bunoan’s outdoor photo installation Twin Towers.

A collaboration among students of Tama Art University, Kawaguchi Art School of Waseda University and U.P. Film Institute concludes with a screening of their film on July 31 Saturday at 4 p.m. (PNA)
