Global Peace Festival set in Negros Oriental in October
DUMAGUETE
CITY, Oct. 3 (PNA) – Some 10,000 participants from all over the Visayas
are expected to attend the Global Peace Festival on October 21 and 22
here during the annual Buglasan Festival of Festivals.
Pedro
Dibdib, director of the Universal Peace Federation-World Collegiate
Association for the Research of Principles (UPF-W-CARP) local chapter,
said the Global Peace Festival aims to find solutions on how to achieve
lasting peace.
The
UPF is a non-government organization (NGO) in special consultative
status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, with
the W-CARP, comprising 194 founding nations, as its international
partner, Dibdib said.
He
explained that the UPF formally took off in the country in 2006 and has
since been holding activities such as lectures and leadership seminars
in quest for peace, while it also embarks on other activities such as
clean-up drives, tree-planting, and visits to orphanages.
A
one-day leadership conference was held last Saturday here and was
attended by representatives from the youth sector, the academe, local
officials, the police and the Philippine Army, among others.
The conference bannered the theme “The Need for Vision and Leadership at a time of global Crisis:
Building Partnerships among Governments, Faith-Based Organizations and NGO’s towards the realization of One Family Under God”.
The Global Peace Festival on Oct. 22 shall take place simultaneously in 12 venues in the country, said Dibdib.
He
expressed appreciation to Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II for
including the activity as part of the Buglasan Festivities.
Highlights
of the Global Peace Festival include a coastal clean-up on Oct. 20, a
regional leaders’ conference with participants coming from Iloilo,
Bacolod, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor on Oct. 21-22, and an Interpretative
Dance for Peace in the evening of Oct. 22. (PNA)
