Caloocan offers free measles vaccines
MANILA,
March 10 (PNA) -- Caloocan Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri announced that
the city health office will be giving free anti-measles vaccines to
children particularly those who are between nine months and five years
old.
Echiverri said it is only right to initiate a program
offering free vaccines to Caloocan’s youngsters so their bodies may have
defense against measles, which is known to worsen under the intense
summer heat.
City health office representatives will make their way to
each of the city barangays to make sure that everyone at risk would be
given the anti-measles shots.
“Offering free vaccines against measles is one of our ways
to show how important the next generation is. We believe that children
are the hope of our nation so it is only fitting to protect their
health,” said Echiverri.
Consequently, the Caloocan mayor asked parents from around
the city to be more vigilant in looking after their kid’s health so they
may be able to seek medical help upon the seeing the symptoms of
measles.
Among these symptoms are long-lasting fevers of up to 10
days, teary eyes, cough and cold and presence of small rashes in the
ears and back that slowly spread and cover the entire body of the
afflicted.
Based on studies conducted by medical experts, there is
still no cure for measles and the only practical defense for the deadly
disease is vaccines.
Barangay officials and health workers will work hand-in-hand
with the City Health Office, which had been tasked to oversee the
vaccination of children. (PNA)
