Famous painter holds workshop for young artists in Dumaguete
DUMAGUETE
CITY, Oct 3 (PNA) -- One of the 100 International Women painting
artists, Glory Abueva-Tobias, recently sponsored a free painting
workshop for young artists here who are interested to improve their
skills in painting.
The
painting workshop, held last weekend at the Sidlakang Negros Village
and Showroom here, were attended by at least 10 art enthusiasts, mostly
out-of-school-youth, from different parts of the province.
Tobias
explained she intentionally chose the out-of-school-youth since they
are those that were usually left behind and not given enough chance to
show their talents and skills.
She
said she was glad to hold the workshop because there is a young
generation of artists who love painting, given the chance to pursue
their interest in this particular art form.
The workshop was held from Sept. 20 to Sept. 27.
Tobias’ painting creations are displayed in an ongoing exhibit at the Sidlakang Negros Village Showroom here.
Meanwhile,
a local artist who is battling cancer, Muffet Dolar-Villegas, also
staged her solo exhibit at the Rana Verde Gallery at the Florentina
Homes here.
The painting exhibit started last September 18 and will end today.
Villegas
said part of the proceeds of the art exhibit would go to the Flame of
Hope, which is a newly formed cancer support group in Negros Oriental.
According
to Villegas, painting became more than a hobby to her when she was
diagnosed with cancer and that it had kept her going while having her
chemotherapy sessions.
She admitted painting helps her in coping with the pain brought by cancer while it also rejuvenates her energy.
Villegas’ exhibit theme is “Art of Life”. (PNA)
