Pacquiao to donate P3 million to typhoon victims
MANILA,
July 5 (PNA) - Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight
champion Manny Pacquiao today donated P3 million for the victims of the
recent typhoon that devastated several regions in the country.
Pacquiao
announced his donation at a press conference in Malcanang after his
courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo this morning.
At
the same time, Pacquiao said he is spearheading a nationwide
fund-raising campaign for the thousands of typhoon victims who were
displaced from their homes.
He
appealed to all Filipinos to chip in their contributions "to help our
countrymen" who are in dire need at this critical time of their lives.
Pacquiao
said he is going to issue a check worth P3 million as his personal
contribution to help the victims of typhoon "Frank."
During a photo opportunity that followed, Pacquiao displayed all the four title belts he won as world champion.
Pacquiao
won his first world title as a mini-flyweight, then bantamweight,
super-featherweight and lately as WBC world lightweight champ by
knocking out Mexican titleholder David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada last
