MANILA, July 5 (PNA) - Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao today donated P3 million for the victims of the recent typhoon that devastated several regions in the country.

Pacquiao announced his donation at a press conference in Malcanang after his courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo this morning.

At the same time, Pacquiao said he is spearheading a nationwide fund-raising campaign for the thousands of typhoon victims who were displaced from their homes.

He appealed to all Filipinos to chip in their contributions "to help our countrymen" who are in dire need at this critical time of their lives.

Pacquiao said he is going to issue a check worth P3 million as his personal contribution to help the victims of typhoon "Frank."

During a photo opportunity that followed, Pacquiao displayed all the four title belts he won as world champion.

Pacquiao won his first world title as a mini-flyweight, then bantamweight, super-featherweight and lately as WBC world lightweight champ by knocking out Mexican titleholder David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada last week. (PNA)
