CITY, Oct. 21 (PNA) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) hailed tourism
stakeholders in Bicol specially elected officials for their efforts to
put the region in the top 10 major tourist destinations in the country.
DOT
undersecretary Oscar Palabyab recently said, Bicolanos need to be more
tourist minded and maintain a tourist friendly environment. "This is a
very positive indicator that the region is now included in the top 10
tourist destinations in the Philippines."
"As
you can see, the tourist arrivals in the provinces of Sorsogon, Albay,
Camarines Sur and Sorsogon are increasing dramatically," Palabyab said.
Palabyab
noted that Butanding interaction in Donsol, Sorsogon, the Water Sports
Center in Camarines Sur, white beaches in Masbate, Mayon Volcano and
Mayon Skyline park in Albay are among the leading tourist destinations
in Bicol. These areas contributed a lot in domestic and foreign tourist
arrivals.
"We
assure our partners in the local government that DOT will continuously
provide assistance in terms of marketing and promotion both here and
abroad," the official said.
He
challenge all tourism stakeholders in the region to become more
creative and try some innovations in order to make their respective
areas tourist attractive. "The more tourism to come means more revenues
to receive and at the same time help eradicate unemployment in the
area."
The DOT regional office has started its marketing and promotion of the inter-provinces tour.
This
new strategy was conceptualized to encourage tourist to discover other
attractions in Bicol region from Camarines Norte via Camarines Sur
through Albay then Sorsogon and Masbate or Catanduanes. (PNA)
