Iloilo showcases tourist destinations and festivals in ‘Tumandok Festival’
ILOILO
CITY, Oct. 3 (PNA) – Residents here are given the opportunity to see
and witness the potential tourist destinations and festivals of the
different municipalities and component city of the province of Iloilo
through the four-day staging of the ‘Tumandok Festival’ that kicked off
Monday.
This
was bared by provincial tourism officer Gilbert Marin who
conceptualized the ‘Tumandok Festival’ in partnership with May Panes, a
faculty at the St. Paul University (SPU) here.
“Tumandok is a combination of both, a destination setting and festival presentations,” he said.
Marin
said that the festival is the local version of the Philippine Travel
Mart and the Wow Philippines projects of the Department of Tourism
(DOT).
“We
combined these two events and planned out to stage it locally so that
other municipalities can also avail of the experience,” he said. “It is
now on its fourth year and has been chosen as one of the 10 best
practices in local governance for Iloilo province.”
Eleven towns have participated in the activity that will culminate Thursday afternoon.
It
is being held this year in partnership with the University of San
Agustin (USA), Central Philippine University (CPU) and the Asian
Business School for Economics (ABE) that offer tourism courses.
“Tourism
students were given opportunities to go on field and document the
products and industry of the town so that they will experience how the
tourism officers function actually,” he said. (PNA)
